24th of july 2009
Saturday pick up is on. 9am at kbu field. everyone is invited to join us. please bring water and disc if possible. Oh ya, please do bring a white and color shirt too. See u guys tomorrow. =)
summary of the training on the 22nd of july
We still have to improve on our throwing, including the fore-hand and back-hand throws. Please use the proper and correct way to make throws as taught by our coach, Mart. For New comers, remember the techniques of both throwing, and then try to improve by throwing the disc further and further. The techniques are very important. Because to throw the disc far and powerful, it's always about the techniques but not about the strengths. =)
We also learned the ways of being a marker, or being marked by a marker. If you are the marker, always not to stay too far from the opponent. This is because u will let the opponent fake a direction and go to opposite way and get the disc easily. U always have to know the possible direction of the opponent going to cut. U can tell by reading his body and shoulder movements sometimes.
If you are on offense and being marked by a defender, you have to always fake to a direction as hard as u can, your cut must be threatening the defender all the time. Make the defender believe that you are going to this direction but ultimately u're going to another direction. Quote: Mart o(coach) =)

Horizontal stack
Horizontal Stack
Three handlers line up across the width of the field with four cutters upfield, also lined up across the field. It is the handler's job to throw the disc upfield to the cutters. If no upfield options are available, the handlers swing the disc side to side in an attempt to reset the stall count while also getting the defense out of position.

Many advanced teams develop specific offenses that are variations on the basics in order to take advantage of the strengths of specific players. Frequently, these offenses are meant to isolate a few key players in one-on-one situations, allowing them more freedom of movement and the ability to make most of the plays, while the others play a supporting role.
Players making cuts have two major options in how they cut. They may cut in towards the disc and attempt to find an open avenue between defenders for a short pass, or they may cut away from the disc towards the deep field. The deep field is usually sparsely defended but requires the handler to throw a huck (a long downfield throw).

Zone defense ... (cup)
Basically players are placed at short, middle and deep.
CUP
the main purpose of the cup is to make the opponent make a mistake pass... You will have 3 people in the 'cup.' Basically, the job of these groups of people are to follow the disc to every thrower at short. Of course, these people has to be good in running, and can run hard to chase the disc.
One person in the cup will start marking. You can't have another person within 3 meters of the thrower so that u won't be called double team. The 2 people are actually trying to shut down the angles.. the triangle cup must be kept in a good shape ALWAYS.. cannot be too wide, or too narrow. If is, then the opponent might get chance to pop into the cup and get the disc.
Wing
2 people, 1 at left and 1 at right. Their responsibility is to prevent the disk from moving up the sideline on a swing, and to try to prevent the 'poppers' from getting the disk in the middle.
Short deep
responsible for making sure that the two wings know where the offensive players are, and is also responsible for helping the 'deep deep' if they get 2 people back.
Deep deep
The person responsible for the long throw. They should never let anyone behind them. This person is generally the tallest and faster person on the defense. If they end up with several offensive players back, they call for help from the 'short deep'.
